ESI provides global training and accreditation around environmental health, public health and food safety. They serve a growing number of UK businesses, and had been tracking their sales data and accounting via manual methods and third-party software that was slowing them down, and made it hard to see bigger trends. My team and I created a bespoke, back-office software solution to organise everything from client records to financials and beyond – all so they could make better business-critical decisions.
The absence of a unified certification, sales and accounting platform was leading to an increase in costs, poor productivity and delays in critical decision-making.
Disjointed experience
Employees were using multiple tools to organise and mine the same data set, making for cumbersome processes and wasted keystrokes.
Office vs on-site workflows
Those in the field would take new data in directly on-site, via paper forms - resulting in different requirements and experiences that all had to flow to the same back end.
Lack of coordination between teams
Because different people were accessing multiple platforms across different environments, there were miscommunications between teams and errors around records.
First, we mapped the needs into a framework to identify the crucial modules of the platform. These modules demonstrated how the product would help overcome common issues around inefficiency and poor communication.
Next, we developed a conceptual model for Accesi based on technical requirements, usability goals, and our vision. We created use case scenarios and prototypes for user testing and refined them based on evaluation results. These iterative cycles helped us shape the information architecture, navigation, and key features of the MVP. After testing user flows and wireframes with employees, we designed the pixel-perfect interface and developed the application in parallel.
Finally, we created a unique brand for the platform that reflects its function as a hub for 'access'. The name connects to Eurosafety International's mission around safety and certification. Now, Accesi serves as their hub for daily operations in various areas in sales, marketing, customer relationships, project management and more.
