The BBC News is the most popular and trusted source of news in the UK. Their mobile app is the go-to platform for staying informed with top stories, breaking news, live reporting, and a broad range of content both domestically and internationally. We collaborated with their design, editorial, and technical teams to improve the user experience, transforming it into a distinctive daily destination.
Working together with cross-functional teams, our objective was to create a news app experience that feels rich, engaging and dynamic. Through our iterative sprints, we created a design system that allows for efficient scaling of the design and provides flexibility to customise the experience for diverse users.
Following the launch of the new experience, the overall time spent on the BBC News app reached 2.3 billion minutes in July, an 18% increase year-over-year (YoY) – followed by Apple News, an aggregator news app, with 1.4 billion minutes. The BBC News app continued to grow its audience reach by over 12.4 million, maintaining its position as the best-ranked single brand news app in the UK.
