My team and I collaborated with the BBC design, editorial and technical teams to increase the total reach of their homepage by transforming it into a distinctive, mobile-first, daily destination. Our project included the evolution of their new brand guidelines into digital applications to ensure consistency across the BBC services. Throughout the project, we explored new content formats based on user research and designed new features to make the BBC experience more engaging for younger audiences.
Through a series of sprints, we collaborated with cross-functional teams to design and develop new concepts. We tested these with users, refined them and documented the final designs for build. In the end, we provided comprehensive implementation guidance that covered detailed use cases, accessibility and technical considerations. Finally, we designed future concepts to demonstrate how these could be expanded through integrations and personalisation.
The BBC homepage now has over 600M total monthly visits, with more than 65% coming from mobile devices.
